2004 GROSS BUSINESS RECEIPTS
Gross business receipts generated within the city of Pigeon Forge increased by 7 percent, from $670 million in 2003, to nearly $714 million in 2004. With the exception of August, revenue increased during every month in 2004. The city's gross receipts for the month of July 2004 ($98,421,696) virtually matched the city's gross receipts for the entirety of 1984 ($99,427,156), the first year Pigeon Forge benefited from a tourism advertising campaign. The decline in August is attributed to the fact that many schools in Pigeon Forge's top visiting markets reopened during the second week of August 2004.
Winterfest celebrated its 15th anniversary in 2004. This event continues to be successful and accounted for significant increases in visitation and revenue during the months of January, February, November and December. If the national predictions are any indication, Pigeon Forge should see continued prosperity in 2005. According to the Travel Industry Association, domestic leisure travel volume will increase by two percent in 2005.
